Galleries, cinema, cafe and courtyard in one building.

The closest thing Tehran has to a creative clubhouse. Several galleries change shows constantly, the cinema screens Iranian films, and the courtyard cafe is where everyone ends up afterwards. Go on a Friday afternoon and stay.

Quieter and greener than Golestan, with grounds worth an hour on their own. Pair it with Jamshidieh Park up the road for a full northern afternoon that costs very little and fills a whole conversation.

Most commercial galleries open new exhibitions on Friday afternoon and are free to enter — no invitation needed. Museums usually close one day a week and sell tickets at a higher rate for foreign visitors; bring cash and ID. Photography is allowed in most galleries but ask first. Fridays are also when traffic is lightest, which makes a multi-gallery walk genuinely doable.
