Wicker Park is the most walkable neighbourhood in Chicago and the one that rewards aimlessness. Everything worth doing sits within fifteen minutes of the Damen Blue Line stop: the record shops, the vintage stores, one of the best independent bookshops in the country, and an elevated park you can walk straight onto.
If you are new to the city and trying to build a social life, this is the neighbourhood to spend your first free Saturday in. It has more recurring public events per square mile than anywhere else in Chicago — open mics, record store listening sessions, bookshop readings, farmers markets — and every one of them puts you in a room with the same faces twice.
