Wicker Park has the highest concentration of good bars in Chicago and, more importantly for our purposes, the widest range of them within a ten-minute walk. One of the best cocktail bars in America sits four blocks from a dive with a photo booth and a jukebox, and both are full on a Tuesday.
The neighbourhood also has a genuinely mixed crowd — the artists who arrived in the nineties never all left, and they drink alongside the tech workers who arrived last year. Practical advice: stand at the bar, go on a weeknight, and use the arcade and games bars as the icebreaker if approaching strangers cold is not your thing.
