Lincoln Park has a reputation as the polished neighbourhood, which does its bars a disservice. Underneath the brownstones there is a genuinely deep bench: a punk-and-whiskey dive that has not changed since 1993, two of the last real blues clubs in the city, and a run of Irish taps where the same people have been sitting on the same stools for thirty years.
For meeting people, the split is simple. The DePaul-adjacent bars are young, loud and easy — you will talk to strangers whether you meant to or not. The taps north of Fullerton are older, quieter and reward showing up twice. The music venues are the wildcard: shared enthusiasm does more for a conversation than any amount of small talk.
